Why a dog finds what people miss

Air samples miss it. Visual inspections miss it. Our dogs don't.

01

Accuracy

90–97% canine detection rates versus 70–80% for traditional inspection methods. We confirm what's there — and rule out what isn't.

02

Non-Invasive

No drilling, no demolition, no tearing into walls just to look. The dog finds the source first. Then a targeted plan follows.

03

Speed

A typical inspection runs 45–90 minutes — versus days of air sampling, lab waits, and inconclusive reports.

04

Unbiased

We don't do remediation, so we have no incentive to oversell. Our job is honest detection and pointing you to the right people next.

A few years ago, I was the one who was sick.

I lived it. That's why I built this.

It started as a migraine that wouldn't quit. Then came more symptoms, and more, until they were debilitating. Many providers and even urgent care visits — and no one could find anything wrong from standard examination or blood tests.

A friend asked a question that changed everything: had I tested my house for mold? I did. The air and swab samples came back with elevated levels. The problem wasn't in my head — it was in my home.

Over three years, it cost me more than $50,000 — testing, remediation, and clawing my health back. I went on leave from work. I moved out. I went through remediation, then turned to functional health to start rebuilding what the mold had taken. Recovery was slow. But piece by piece, I got my life back.

I'm still healing — and I'm honest about that. What I'm not is in the dark anymore. That experience turned me into an advocate against the moldy homes and workplaces quietly making people sick, and convinced me of one thing: when mold is hidden and hard to find, a trained dog is the best answer there is.

I built Dogs On Mold so you don't have to lose what I lost to find it. If you're sick and no one can explain why — or you just want to know what's really in your walls — this is for you.

Founder & Certified Handler

I came to this work the hard way — as the sick guy no one could diagnose. Now I run every inspection myself, handle Winnie in the field, and stay with clients long after the report is done. I don't hand you off to anyone — the restoration of your space is my priority.

Winnie

Lead Detection Dog · Labrador Retriever

Trained at Ironheart, one of the most respected working-dog programs in the country — the same lineage behind 35+ years and hundreds of police K9s trained for drugs, explosives, and mold detection. On the clock, she's all business. Off the clock, she'll turn anything into a game of hide-and-seek — especially if her Kong is involved.

The Dogs On Mold Way
How we work

Four disciplines, one honest answer.

Most inspectors do one thing. We layer four — because mold doesn't show up in just one way, and you deserve to know it everywhere it lives.
01

We read the mold, not just the dog

A dog finds the scent — but someone has to read what it means. As your handler, I'm trained to interpret the mold itself: how old it is, whether it's active, and what's feeding it. Reading staining patterns, growth maturity, and moisture signatures alongside Winnie's alerts is what turns a "she smelled something" into an actual answer about what you're dealing with.

02

We find what the dog alone would miss

Most mold-dog companies can read their dog. Few can read the building. Mold is a symptom; the structure is the cause. Because I'm trained in building science — pressure dynamics, envelope failures, HVAC behavior, moisture pathways — I can account for the spaces a dog might miss, sharpen how I read Winnie's cues in a given area, and explain why the mold is there. That's the difference between finding mold and understanding it.

03

Proof, not a hunch

We don't stop at a sniff. We confirm what Winnie finds with high-intensity inspection light and calibrated moisture metering — and, at your request, optional air or swab sampling — so you walk away with evidence, not a guess.

04

We don't disappear after the report

Finding mold is step one. We stay with you through what comes after — connecting you with vetted hygienists, and acting as your GC through remediation to protect you from bad remediators, because we know what to look for.

What you get

Every inspection includes

  • A full canine sweep with Winnie, handler-read in real time.
  • Building-science assessment of moisture sources and problem areas.
  • Confirmation with inspection light and moisture metering — optional air/swab sampling on request.
  • A same-day verbal walkthrough of what we found, plus a written report with photos within 48 hours — what we found, where, and whether it's active.
  • A vetted referral and briefing: we connect you with a trusted hygienist and a remediator who meets our standards, and make sure you understand your report before those conversations.
All-inclusive pricing

No hidden fees. You'll know your full price before we book.

Mold cost me more than $50,000 over three years — because no one found it early. An inspection is a fraction of that, and the cheapest step you'll take in this whole process.
